INSTALL partners contribute time and talents at curriculum review
6/5/2008

In less than 48 hours, 29 technical and education experts, representing 26 mill and manufacturer INSTALL partners, reviewed and offered valuable suggestions to further enhance 3 disciplines of the curriculum by which INSTALL professionals are taught.

Held at the United Brotherhood of Carpenters’ International Training Fund’s facility in Las Vegas, the experts were asked to work with CITF floor covering curriculum experts to update the 100+ learning modules, so that instruction stays current with the latest technology and in step with industry requirements. Work focused on carpet, resilient, and standard skills training.

The review was held May 19 and 20, 2008 at the CITF’s training center in Las Vegas, Nevada.

During the process, many of the experts voiced appreciation for simply being asked to participate. Chris Drummond is the VP of Quality Assurance of Bentley Prince Street. At the end of the first day he said, "I have spent my career trying to get people to listen to what I have been trying to tell them about proper installations, and they didn't want to listen. This is refreshing because you are coming to us and asking us to tell you."

And, by the conclusion of the event, certification opportunities also surfaced. Cooperative agreements with Armstrong and other mills were created, giving INSTALL professionals the ability to gain these certifications simultaneously, as they achieve the INSTALL certification.

“There was a good amount of hot topics and details contributed to the new curriculum, and we created a bridge with our partner experts to access new techniques and tools virtually as soon as they are released,” said INSTALL Director John McGrath.
